Functional Requirements

FR-01 — Recommendation Generation
The system shall generate a ranked list of products for an eligible customer.

FR-02 — Personalization
Recommendations shall incorporate available customer interaction history and relevant product information.

FR-03 — User Eligibility
The system shall support both users with historical interaction data and users with insufficient or no history.

FR-04 — Product Eligibility
Unavailable or otherwise ineligible products shall be excluded from the recommendation result.

FR-05 — Ranking
The recommendation output shall be ordered by estimated relevance.

FR-06 — Application Integration
The recommendation capability shall be consumable by the existing BigKart application through a defined service interface.

FR-07 — Fallback
The system shall provide a fallback recommendation strategy when personalized recommendations cannot be generated.

Non-Functional Requirements

NFR-01 — Latency
Recommendation retrieval shall meet a production-acceptable response time. Target: TBD.

NFR-02 — Availability
Failure of the recommendation component shall not prevent core BigKart functionality from operating.

NFR-03 — Scalability
The architecture shall support growth in users, products, interaction events, and recommendation requests without fundamental redesign.

NFR-04 — Observability
Recommendation requests, failures, latency, model/version information, and relevant business events shall be observable.

NFR-05 — Maintainability
Model development, deployment, and rollback shall remain independently manageable from the core ecommerce application.
